Nxdia (Nadia Ahmed), a queer, gender-fluid, Egyptian-Sudanese artist who creates music about their experiences exploring their identities and sharing their stories to their audience through their empowering music, including integrating their native language, Arabic (Egyptian dialect) throughout their songs. As an creative individual who is also an Egyptian and relate a lot to Nxdia’s identities as I feel very seen from their music. Sadly, there is not a lot of representation when it comes to Middle Eastern & North African heritage in a lot of western music, including in the queer community as well. To be able to see one of your own embracing their culture, intersectionality, and telling stories you can connect too makes you feel included regardless of how far you are in the world. I was inspired by Nxdia’s recent release of their song, “She likes a Boy” and I created a digital illustration based on their album artwork. Nxdia themselves saw the work in progress of the fan art and liked the story I posted on my Instagram account.
